Nick McMillen was born in Leeds, England, in 1975. He studied art and design at Reigate School of Art and Design and The Surrey Institute of Art and Design. In 2006 he began work as a bushcraft instructor spending many months of the year living in the woods of southern England. This is where his love of common woodland trees and plants arose. In 2020 he became a full time botanical artist and fibre weaver. He was runner-up in the Basket of the Year Competition in 2021. In 2022 he enjoyed great success in his first collaborative exhibition ‘Drawn from the Land’ in Alresford, Hampshire. In 2024 he was awarded the Exhibiting Excellence award at the Society of Botanical Artists Plantae 2024 and was awarded the Cockpit Arts Basketry Award.
