Bobbi Angell

Bobbi Angell - scientific illustrator, printmaker, instructor, and gardener - has been drawing plants for botanists since 1978. Much of her work is done from herbarium specimens at The New York Botanical Garden, but tropical field work and growing plants at her home in Vermont contribute to her diverse knowledge of plants. She is co-author of A Botanist’s Vocabulary and her illustrations have been published in floras including Vascular Plants of Central French Guiana; Vines and Climbing Plants of Puerto Rico, and Intermountain Flora. She was the 2006 recipient of Jill Smythies Award from the Linnean Society of London and ASBA Award for Excellence in the Service of Science. Bobbi’s copper plate etchings reflect her interest in fine detail and have allowed a satisfying and natural extension of her compositional style, with designs drawn onto a ground on a copper plate, etched with acid, and hand printed in limited editions.
