Johann was born in 1710 in Nuremberg, with his sister Barbara whom was four years older. Johann took on a different style of Art to his sister, and produced copper engravings and opaque-coloured paintings. He died in Nuremberg likewise the rest of his family, who stayed loyal to their City despite offers elsewhere, in 1769.
