Franz Andreas Bauer

Franz Bauer was born in Moravia (now Valtice, Czech Republic) in 1758. He became a Botanical Artist in Kew Gardens, where he stayed for the rest of his working life. He tutored Queen Charlotte, Princess Elizabeth and other Botanical Illustrators at his time in Kew Gardens, and produced more than 2000 pieces of work. He died in 1840, and was buried at St. Annes Church in Kew.
