Leslie held degrees in both painting and illustrating, and while a student in Paris, frequently visited the Jardin des Plantes, which prompted her to start painting botanicals. Her work has been exhibited in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Pittsburgh and the Shirley Sherwood Collection.
