Sheila was a remarkable botanical artist who loved plants and the natural world. She was awarded a scholarship to the Ealing School of Art at the age of 13 for a portfolio of flower paintings and was a founder member of the Society of Botanical Artists. In 2000 she was elected a fellow of the Linnean Society. During her career she was awarded several RHS medals, including three golds. Sheila was a regular contributor to Curtis’s Botanical Magazine. Her paintings are included in many important contemporary collections worldwide including the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, the Royal Horticultural Society’s Lindley Library and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew where her work was shown in a retrospective exhibition shortly after she died in 2014.
