Elvia was born in Mexico City in 1944. After taking time out after University to raise her children, she began exhibiting her work in numerous collections, and won two RHS Gold Medals for her illustrations of cacti. Her work appears in many publications, including Shirley Sherwood's "A New Flowering: 1000 Years of Botanical Art". She is currently a Professor of Scientific Illustrations in the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
