Kimiyo Maruyama was born in Hyogo, Japan in 1936. She started to study botanical painting in 1992-93 and has since painted outstanding paintings of Pinaceae trees. She won an RHS Gold in 2001, 2003, 2005, 2010, 2015 and "Best Exhibit in Show" in 2010. Her works are held in the Shirley Sherwood Collection, the RHS Lindley Library, the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and the Hunt Institute. Her illustrations have been published in Curtis's Botanical Magazine; Endangered Plants of Japan, A Florilegium (2004); Drawings of Alien Plants of Japan: A Collection (2009); and in Endemic Plants of Japan (2021).
