In Gallery 5, The Singh Twins: Botanical Tales and Seeds of Empire presents a compelling new collection by the internationally acclaimed artists, inspired by Kew’s botanical archives. Featuring vibrant fabric light boxes, the exhibition explores the complex relationships between plants, trade and empire, revealing how commodities such as cotton, spices and dyes shaped global history.
Alongside these works are pieces that examine the cultural meanings and symbolism of plants across different societies and traditions. Visitors can also watch the thought-provoking short film King Cotton: An Artist’s Tale, which reflects on the legacy of colonial plant trade and its continuing relevance today.
