From 2005, Barbara Oozeerally embarked on a nine year project to illustrate and document Magnolias – both their species and hybrids. Each painting is life size; Barbara measured every bud, flower, branch, leaf and seed head, as well colour sampling each plant. Her work was exact and meticulous. The resultant artworks are, as Dr. Shirley Sherwood describes, ‘an extraordinary series of important and beautiful plants’.
Barbara’s work has been published in a book titled ‘Magnolias in Art and Cultivation’. Authored by Barbara, Jim Gardiner and Stephen A. Spongberg, the book was published by Kew Publishing in association with the Royal Horticultural Society.
