Following a career spanning various roles in graphics, design and journalism, Marina Virdis started as a botanical artist in 1992 and began teaching botanical art in 2001. She was an elected member of the Society of Botanical Artists at the 2001 RHS Floraviva and her work is in collections such as the Lindley Library, Hunt Institute, Shirley Sherwood Collection and Museo della Grafica di Pisa. Over her lifetime, she won numerous awards including the Primavera alla Landriana Medal for Best Art Exhibition in Rome in 1998 and 1999, a Silver-Gilt Medal at the RHS Botanical Art Exhibition in1999, a Gold Medal at the RHS Botanical Art Exhibition in 2000 and the Margaret Granger Memorial Silver Bowl, Society of Botanical Artists, in 2002.
